Haunted, But Make It Chic: Mint's Halloween Edit

Halloween is my favorite holiday, so every year I go all out decorating my home for it. But going all out doesn't mean starting from scratch. One of my core design philosophies is to reuse as much as I can, so most of my Halloween decor gets dusted off and given a second act year after year. Every so often though, a new idea calls for something I don't already have, and that's when I go shopping. This guide is your source for spooky, glamorous Halloween home decor that feels curated, not costume-y.

Why Reuse First

Before you add anything new to your cart, take inventory of what you already own. A black taper candle looks completely different in a vintage brass candlestick than it does in a plastic pumpkin holder. Half the magic of a glamorous Halloween is styling, not shopping. I always start here, and it's usually where I find I only need a handful of new pieces to pull a whole room together.

Candles & Ambient Lighting

Lighting sets the mood faster than any other decoration on this list. I lean into warm, flickering light in dark, moody vessels:

Tall black tapered candlestick holders for height and drama on a mantel or console

Low black tapered candlestick holders for a grounded look on the table

Natural & Found Elements

Dried and faux greenery adds texture without tipping into costume territory, and most of it lasts well past October:

Green weeping willow vines draped over shelves or a stair railing

Bendable tree branches to build a centerpiece moment

Spooky green creepy cloth for cobweb texture that still reads elevated

Whimsical Creatures & Accents

This is where the personality comes in. A few of these go a long way:

Spooky black butterflies scattered across a wall or mirror

Black illuminated wicker bats so you get decor and light in one

Iridescent black sitting crows perched on shelves or a bookcase

Statement Pieces

This is where I allow myself one or two new purchases each year, since these tend to work beyond just Halloween:

Black twig wreath for the front door

Metal cauldron with feet as a tabletop accent

Wooden cheeseboard  for a spooky-elevated grazing spread

Tablescape & Textiles

The table is where "glamorous Halloween" really gets to shine:

Witches table runner as your base layer

Sisal grass placemats in neutral or black for texture underneath

Bistro tile stoneware dessert plates with 24k gold accents

Think about creating distinct areas or vignettes throughout your home with items you plan to decorate with. For example, if you own a basic Halloween Skeleton- one of my favorite things to do with them is to introduce them inside and outside of my home in poses. Sometimes I have them sitting at the piano, other times at my dining table or pushing my bar cart. I love involving them as if they were characters playing a role.

At the end of the day, Halloween decorating doesn't have to mean starting over every year, or spending a fortune to get that glamorous, spooky feel. A few well-chosen pieces layered in with what you already have can completely transform a room. That's the whole philosophy behind how I decorate, for Halloween and every season after it.

I hope this list gives you a starting point for your own spooky-glam vision this year. If you end up styling any of these pieces, tag me, I'd love to see how you make them your own. And stay tuned, my Holiday shopping guides are coming next.
