Double Duty: Shared Home Office + Guest Room
Project Type
Interior Design
Location
Coconut Grove
Home offices can be tricky to design at the best of times, but when a space has to serve multiple functions for multiple people simultaneously, the challenge becomes a genuinely exciting puzzle to solve.
This particular office had to do it all. A shared workspace for two, a comfortable guest room when needed, and a space that still felt warm, personal, and beautifully designed throughout. Those are a lot of requirements to meet within a single room, and meeting every single one of them was the goal from day one.
The solution started with an entire wall of custom carpentry designed to maximize storage while keeping the space feeling clean and uncluttered. Nestled within that wall is a queen-sized Murphy bed that comes down easily and comfortably whenever guests arrive, transforming the room seamlessly without disrupting the overall aesthetic.
One long desk runs the length of the space, providing two people with ample room to work simultaneously without ever feeling cramped or compromised. The center table serves as a decorative anchor for the room on a daily basis, and doubles as additional workspace for other family members whenever the need arises.
The gallery wall is perhaps my favorite touch. Filled with paintings that family members either created themselves or collected at art shows, it brings an irreplaceable personal warmth to the space. Functional, flexible, and full of heart.
