Junior League of Miami Design Showhouse 2018 at Deering Estate

Project Type

Interior Design

Location

Coconut Grove

This one-of-a-kind bedroom was created for the 2018 Junior League of Miami Design Showhouse at the Historic Deering Estate, and what an honor it was to be a part of it. The home of Charles Deering was built in 1900, and he lived there until his passing in the mid-1920s. Walking into a space with that kind of history is something you feel immediately. It changes how you approach every single design decision.

From the very beginning, I knew I wanted to stay true to the era and energy of the home. Imposing something too modern or too trend-driven would have felt completely wrong, almost disrespectful to the story already living within those walls. So I chose a lighter, softer color palette that felt period-appropriate while still feeling fresh and inviting rather than heavy or museum-like.

The low ceiling was the design challenge I was most excited to solve. Rather than fight it, I leaned into it commissioning a Zodiac mural to grace the ceiling and transform what could have felt like a limitation into the most magical focal point in the room. It made the space feel cozy, intimate, and completely enchanting.

History, creativity, and a little celestial magic. This one was truly special.

Stylized furniture icons including sofa, chair, lamp, and decor elements, representing modern interior design concepts in Miami.
