Being a creative person myself, and the proud mom of two creative daughters, I can tell you that designing and setting up this kids' art studio was an absolute joy from start to finish. Projects like these are rare and special. You get to set aside the usual design rulebook and tap into something a little more playful, a little more free.
Of course, storage and function were at the forefront. In a working art studio for children, things need to be accessible, organized, and durable. But the beauty of a space like this is that functionality and fun are one and the same. I selected purposeful, sturdy furniture built for creative minds to come in, experiment, make a mess, and be challenged and I love that!
I intentionally left the center of the room open to allow for the group talks and events they regularly hosted. That decision was everything for the flow of the space. Children could move freely and access their tables and art supplies with ease, while the teacher had the room needed to give direction, demonstrate, and engage without ever feeling cramped.
It was such a rewarding project to be part of. And honestly, don't we all wish we had a creative space of our very own?
